The IT Network Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of the organization’s computer networks. They ensure the network infrastructure operates efficiently, supports the business needs, and aligns with industry best practices. The IT Network Manager also leads a team of network professionals, coordinates network-related projects, and collaborates with other IT teams to provide reliable network connectivity and services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Network Infrastructure Management
- Plan, design, and implement the organization’s computer network infrastructure, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize network configuration to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
- Implement network security measures, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and VPNs, to safeguard the organization’s data and systems.
- Conduct regular network audits and assessments to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and provide guidance to a team of network administrators and technicians.
- Assign tasks, set goals, and evaluate team members’ performance.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, encouraging professional growth and knowledge sharing among team members.
Network Planning and Expansion
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and develop network strategies that support organizational goals.
- Plan and execute network expansion projects, including hardware and software upgrades, network migrations, and new site deployments.
- Conduct capacity planning to ensure the network infrastructure can handle current and future demands.
Network Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of the network infrastructure, configurations, and processes.
- Generate reports on network performance, security incidents, and compliance with established policies and standards.
- Communicate network-related updates, issues, and recommendations to management and other stakeholders.
Vendor Management
- Evaluate and select network equipment and service providers, ensuring they meet the organization’s requirements and budgetary constraints.
- Manage relationships with vendors and service providers, including contract negotiation, performance monitoring, and issue resolution.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+) are a plus.
- Proven experience in network administration and management, with a strong understanding of network protocols, topologies, and architectures.
- In-depth knowledge of networking technologies, including switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks.
- Experience with cloud-based technologies
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools, security principles, and best practices.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a technical team.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies in networking.
